'' The world of video games has blossomed into more than just child¡¯s play ¨C it¡¯s a viable career path for those who not only love to play games, but those who want to learn what makes them work and how to make them better.

The Game Art & Design program at The Art Institute of Portland helps students gain a strong foundation in traditional art skills such as drawing and sculpting. Students are taught about the gaming industry in big picture mode: visual effects, animation and feature films. Then using industry tools such as Maya and 3D Studio Max, they¡¯ll delve into character development, game creation, prototyping, and creating a final product. Conveniently located between two of the hottest gaming areas in the country, students who choose to study Game Art & Design at The Art Institute of Portland will have the opportunity to learn from industry professionals in class, as well as through guest lectures, events and workshops.

Game Art & Design is a fine combination of the artistic and the technical. To succeed in this program, you¡¯ll need to build strong traditional drawing skills as well as computer skills. We¡¯re looking for students who are creative problem solvers and enjoy working in teams. Students who are passionate for computer and video gaming, game play, character animation, character and prop modeling, virtual environment creation, and the technical challenges related to game development. Graduates of this program are prepared for entry-level positions such as game tester, 3D modeler, digital artist and character animator.
