Course Description:

'' The Master of Accounting and Financial Management (MAFM) program equips students with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to function as accounting and financial managers in public accounting, industry, education or government. Coursework is taught from the practitioner’s perspective and focuses on applying accounting and financial management concepts and skills to real-world applications.
Students must select one of the following emphases: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). Each emphasis requires successful completion of six accounting foundations and five program core courses. In addition, the CPA emphasis requires successful completion of four professional exam-preparation courses and one elective; the CFA emphasis requires successful completion of two professional exam-preparation courses and one elective; and the CFE emphasis requires successful completion of four electives from the prescribed list. The program requires successful completion of 14 to 16 courses (44 or 45 semester-credit hours), depending on the emphasis selected.
Coursework throughout the MAFM program builds students’ knowledge in key functional areas such as:
financial accounting and reporting
managerial accounting
operational and internal auditing
taxation
Specific MAFM program objectives include:
preparing students for careers in public, private and governmental accounting, or in a wide range of financial careers
providing students who are licensed accountants with continuing-education requirement courses
preparing students to qualify to sit for, and pass, professional licensure and certification exams
providing students with an appropriate blend of theory and practice
