'' This four-day course builds on the general principles, covered as part of the ITIL Service Management Essentials course. It provides practical guidance on the design, implementation and integration of an ITIL-based Configuration Management Process, within the context of an organisation¡¯s overall business-focussed Services Framework.) The course is based on the Configuration Management Process, described in the OGC¡¯s Best Practice Guidelines for Service Support book. The course is assignment based, with a strong emphasis on practical coursework, working as individuals and in teams.

Objectives
Understand the design and implementation of an end-to-end configuration Management process

Pre-Requisites
Delegates should have at least one year of relevant IT experience and have attained the ISEB/EXIN Foundation Certificate in IT Service Managemen


Target Audience
This course will is aimed at IT practitioners who wish to gain practical experience in the field of Configuration Management, or who wish to extend their range of understanding of the subject.

How Configuration Management interfaces with other Service Management processes
Introduction to Configuration Management, outlining the need, scope, basic concepts and terminology of Configuration Management
The four stages of Configuration Management: identification,control, status accounting and verification

Selling the benefits of Configuration Management and how to overcome possible problems
Implementation and maintenance of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), including advice on data collection, cleaning and input

The relationship between Configuration, Change and Release Management, and why Change Management is essential before implementation

Using a CMDB to manage the Incident, Problem, Change life-cycle
Certification
The course forms part of the ISEB¡¯s Practitioner qualification programme. The qualification is based on a combination of in-course assessment and multiple choice examination. Typically, the examination is taken at the end of the course. Successful delegates will be awarded the ISEB Practitioner Certificate in IT Service Management specialising in Configuration Management
