'' A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It covers the basic knowledge and technical practical skills, providing a good foundation for future career opportunities or progression to a more advanced work-related qualification.
A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs Grades A-C and may be taken as a full-time course.

A BTEC First Diploma in Animal Care can develop the skills you need to start or progress in careers, such as:

Animal welfare charities
Wildlife charities
Zoos and animal collections
Pet shops

The qualification provides the underpinning knowledge requirements for Animal Care NVQ2. It also provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as the National Award, National Diploma or National Certificate in:

Animal Management
Horse Management

The course is made up of six units - 3 core units that everyone takes and 3 specialist units. The specialist units enable you to study a particular area in more depth.

Introduction to Animal and Plant Biology
