Training Course:Sustainable Construction for Wales and WFBP Launch of Wood Knowledge and Woodsource WalesSchool/Trainer:Building Research Establishment BRE Watford, United Kingdom
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' The challenge and opportunity to build more sustainably in Wales has never been higher. More and more public and private organisations are looking for information on how to build more sustainably and what this means in terms of the design, construction and management of our built environment as well as the people we employ, their skills, understanding and commitment.
A major aspect in delivering sustainable buildings in Wales is down to material selection and use. Wales has finite resources and as we know from the WWFstudies, if we keep consuming resources at the rate we are then we will need three planets. Therefore as part of this event we will be looking at timber and its uses in delivering sustainable buildings.
The second part of the event will be the launch of Woodknowlege and Woodsource Wales. These initiatives have been set up by the Welsh Forest Business Partnership and sponsored by the Forestry Commission Wales and the Welsh Assembly government. Their roles are to work with forestry and timber businesses in Wales to help innovate and market their products.
Wales Forest Business Partnership (WFBP) is an industry led group of businesses and other organisations across the forestry and wood processing sector which has been established to help strengthen the competitiveness of the sector as a whole, with the remit of delivering The Welsh Assembly Government¡¯s Woodlands for Wales strategy. WFBP will be launching two of its initiatives: Wood Knowledge Wales and Wood Source Wales. Sponsored by the Assembly and Forestry Commission Wales, the roles of the initiatives are to provide support to businesses and for the sector as a whole. WKW and WSW are providing businesses with opportunities for business development, providing specialist technical, innovation and marketing support to encourage the development of new products, processes and markets.
