Training Course:

Low Carbon Technology Briefing: Small Scale Wind

School/Trainer:

Building Research Establishment BRE
Watford, United Kingdom

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' UK buildings are responsible for about 45% of the total UK carbon emissions While energy conservation and energy efficiency measures should help to reduce the building energy demand, low carbon and renewable energy technologies are seen to have the potential to provide the rest of the energy demand with low or zero carbon impact.
In April 2006 the DTI launched the Low Carbon Building Programme to promote the expansion of micro generation technologies for householders, community organisations, schools, the public sector and businesses through the provision of grants.

The programme, that has already started is jointly administered by the BRE and the EST. Applicants would be eligible for grants for a different range of technologies. This set of conferences aim to provide a general overview of some of these technologies.

Programme :

The last few years have seen many developments in small scale wind technology. Consequently, the number of turbines in use has risen as a result of a growing interest amongst home owners and organisations in having their own source of green energy.

There are a wide range of different technologies being developed that are aimed at the built environment. These can generate varying percentages of a building’s energy consumption, depending on the option chosen and the wind speed at the site. However, due to the characteristics of the wind in the built environment, these technologies present complex issues regarding building integration.

Delegates will gain an insight into what technologies are available, the output that can be expected and how they can be incorporated into building developments. Speakers from the sector will give presentations on a range of issues including grid connection and metering, government policy, grant schemes and planning.
