'' To ensure that all Home Inspectors understand the use of timber in buildings and are able to identify defects and deleterious conditions. Specifically that home inspectors:
Understand basic design and usage principals Recognise structural in adequacy and other performance Identification of timber deterioration Identification of the need for remedial work or further specialist investigation.
The course will be based on the requirements of the Home Inspector Assessment. It will built on the work of earlier modules. Subjects covered are:
Structural use of timber, basic design principals Timber components in buildings and connections Timber frame construction Assessing structural problems and their significance Biological degrade - the importance of moisture Fungal decay - types recognition and significance Insect attack recognition and significance Other causes of timber deterioration Exterior timber - windows, door, cladding etc Assessing the need for remedial work and further assessment There will be a post-course assessment of competence
