Course Description:

'' The City & Guilds Certificate in Basic Construction Skills aims to develop the underpinning knowledge for work in the building trade. Students will experience an introduction to skills in Bricklaying, Woodworking, Painting and Decorating, Plumbing, Electrical and Wall and Floor Tiling.

Structure
This is a one year full-time course delivered within Lauder College’s excellent training facilities in Halbeath, Cowdenbeath and Rosyth. Training is undertaken in our well equipped classrooms and workshops using specialist tools and equipment. Assessment is ongoing with no formal examination. Students will benefit from the experience of an employer placement through which they can develop their skills.

Content
The following skills will be undertaken:

- Bricklaying
- Woodworking
- Painting & Decorating
- Plumbing
- Electrical
- Plastering

Career Opportunities
On successful completion of the course, students could go on to gain employment as a Modern Apprenticeship in the Construction Industry.

Progression
Students who progress to Modern Apprenticeships will continue their education at Lauder College by progressing to an SVQ Level 3 in their chosen career.

This process usually takes four years and successful completion results in Craftsperson status.

Preferred Entry Requirements
Candidates must have a pass in Maths, English and preferably Craft and Design or Graphic Communication at Standard Grade.

Candidates will also be expected to complete a trade test to assess suitability for the course.

The course is of a high practical nature and candidates must comply with all current Health and Safety requirements. Any candidate who wishes to discuss Health and Safety requirements in more detail should contact the Assistant Head of School of The Built Environment.
