Course Description:
'' This course from the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) provides a sound, broad introduction to the fundamentals of occupational health and safety for those working in the construction industry. It is designed to help those with Health and Safety responsibilities to carry out their duties more effectively.
The course is designed to ensure candidates acquire the knowledge to recognise workplace hazards, the significance of human factors such as attitudes and perception, and the ability to present a reasoned case to management.
Structure
It is offered on a day-release basis over 20 weeks with 18 weeks of class teaching and practical work or by open learning, which involves self directed home study with tutor support. Revision, mock examination, practical assessment and examinations are all carried out at the appropriate Lauder College campus.
As some candidates may not have undertaken formal study for some time and may benefit from training and practice in both study and examination techniques, these will form an intrinsic part of each unit of the course. Training in report writing is also included within the syllabus.
Assessment is by means of a two-paper examination and a practical assessment that involves carrying out an inspection of a workplace and preparation of a management report. The examination is held nationally twice each year although additional dates may be possible.
