Course Description:

'' This course is ideal for school leavers and adults wishing to pursue a career within the Tourism Industry. In particular the course will prepare individuals for supervisory roles within a Tourism or Hospitality related field. The course is especially suited to students who have completed the Access to HNC Tourism course and wish to advance to a Higher National qualification.

Structure
This is a one year full-time course delivered from September to June. It is taught by research, learning packs, brochures, guide books and use of the Internet. Students will be assessed by a combination of assignments and closed book assessments. The examining body for this course is the SQA.

Content
The following areas will be covered:
- International Tourist Destinations
- Providing Information on Scottish Tourism
- Structure and Organisation of Travel and Tourist Industry
- Marketing in Travel and Tourism
- Creating a Culture of Customer Care
- Using Information Technology
- Communication
- Front Office Procedures
- Developing Skills for Personal Effectiveness
- Languages
- Graded Unit.

Career Opportunities
This course will give students the relevant practical skills and knowledge for a career within the Tourism and Hospitality Industry. Leading to positions as Travel Agents, Tourist Information Assistants or Couriers.

Progression
Successful completion of this course can lead to further study of the HND in Tourism.

Preferred Entry Requirements
The entry options are:
- SQA Group Award in Tourism.
- 2 qualifications at Intermediate 2
- 1 Higher and 4 Standard Grades.

Candidates who do not have the formal qualifications but who have relevant practical experience are also welcome to apply.
