'' If you are keen to pursue a career within the design and craft industries, this practically based course will provide varied experience of a wide range of specialist areas of applied arts, such as jewellery, ceramics and textiles.
Structure This course can be studied over one year full-time or two years part-time. Assessment is on a continuous basis throughout the duration of the course. The course is delivered in Art Space, our custom-built Art and Design learner base in the Media Space building on the main campus.
Content The course includes the following subjects: - Design Activity - Jewellery Design - Stone Setting - Introduction to Sculpture - Produce a Creative 3-Dimensional Form - Fabric Crafts: Fabric painting - Introduction to Surface Decoration - Experimental Printmaking - Analytical Drawing - Introduction to Figure Life Drawing.
The course also contains core skills in communication, numeracy and IT and you will complete an enterprise activity group project related to your area of study.
Career Opportunities Successful completion of this course could lead to employment in a range of posts in the art and design areas. If you have ambitions to set up your own craft-related business then this course to provide the basic skills you need to enable you to do this.
Progression This course can lead to a variety of Art based HN or degree level courses in a variety of FE/HE establishments.
Preferred Entry Requirements Minimum of three Standard Grades (or equivalent) of which one must be in Art or an Art related subject. You will also need to submit a portfolio of your artwork for consideration. If you have no formal qualification in this area a portfolio that illustrates your talent and ability will be favourably considered. Mature entry is encouraged and will be assessed on an individual basis.
