'' To introduce hardware, software, practical techniques and stages involved in the production of printed publications. This course is intended to develop the candidates knowledge of the main typographical and desktop publishing terms used in page design, layout and production.
Structure This is a 40 hour flexible learning national unit at Intermediate 2 level. This course is delivered flexibly, both at the Lauder College Main Campus and at our Community Centres.
Content Areas Covered: - The Hardware and Software Required for Desktop Publishing - The Terminology and the Main Stages Involved in the Production of a printed publication - Produce a Publication Including the Use of Master Pages, Graphic Elements, Text and Boxes - Production of Notices and Newsletters.
Career Opportunities This course provide skills which would benefit people preparing for a career in graphic design.
Progression Success on this course provides the entry requirements for the Higher National unit Using Desk Top Publishing in Business.
Preferred Entry Requirements Candidates should have some degree of computer literacy, although they do not need to have experience of desktop publishing. For candidates who have never used a computer it would be advisable to undertake the Introduction to Computers module or a Word Processing course. ...''
