Course Description:
'' Hospitality Supervision can either be delivered on its own or as part of a Hospitality Modern Apprenticeship. The SVQ Level 3 course is designed for anyone in full-time employment who has to take immediate responsibility for the operation of an area or other people at work. It has specialist units relevant to the Hospitality Industry including food production, food service, drink service, events, reception, housekeeping and portering.
Structure The course will take between two and three years to complete dependent on the work environment and prior knowledge. Attendance at the college is on a day-release basis.
The course is assessed and accredited by SQA who award the certificate.
The prime source of evidence must be provided from the candidate¡¯s own workplace. The qualification is delivered as part of a continuous course with access at any time throughout the year. Students will create a portfolio of evidence to prove that they have appropriate knowledge and understanding and that they can carry out their job competently in the work place.
Content To achieve the SVQ, candidates must complete eight units in total. They must complete all five mandatory units and three optional units from a range of units that reflect the work they do in their job.
Mandatory units - Supervise the Work of Staff - Establish and Develop Positive Working Relationships in Hospitality - Contribute to the Control of Resources - Maintain the Health, Hygiene, Safety and Security of the Working Environment - Manage Yourself.
Candidates must choose at least one of the following units: - Maintain Food Production Operations - Supervise a Function - Maintain the Food Service - Maintain the Drinks Service - Maintain the Housekeeping Service - Maintain the Portering and Concierge Service - Maintain the Reception Service - Maintain the Reservations and Booking Service.
There are other optional units available covering a range of supervisory functions within the Hospitality Industry.
