'' This 1 day course will review the requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended in 2002) and provide guidance on how your employees can look after their back and muscles by adopting best practice manual handling techniques.

The latest statistics available from the Health and Safety Executive clearly show that musculoskeletal disorders including low back pain, joint injuries and repetitive strain injuries are the most common occupational illness in Great Britain , affecting one million people per year. These problems are often the result of poor manual handling techniques and commonly occur within most employment sectors.

Employers have a duty under health and safety legislation to make sure the risks to health in the workplace associated with manual handling are properly controlled.

Equally, employees have a legal responsibility to manually handle objects moved as part of their work in a safe manner in accordance with the guidance and training they have received. In this way, the risks associated with manual handling will be reduced.
