'' This one-day course is designed to equip lawyers with basic project management skills which will help them improve delivery of their legal services or to manage internal projects successfully. Most legal work involves managing other people, timescales, costs and resources, and particularly in areas such as corporate or litigation work, managing teams of internal and external lawyers and advisers can be critical to successful delivery of the work. The aim of this course is to equip participants with a structured approach that they can apply to any project or legal work that they manage and to give them the processes and skills to agree, set up, manage, deliver and evaluate projects. The course will cover:
The use of project management techniques in the delivery of legal services, including estimating fees; cost-benefit analysis for the client; managing teams of lawyers and other advisers
The main phases of any project
The importance of teamwork and communication
The role and responsibilities of the project manager
Leading a project - briefing others and managing change
The need to work systematically - liasing with the client; identifying needs, defining terms of reference, setting clear outcomes, agreeing deliverables
Managing a project from start to finish through its five stages: initial instructions; initiating the project; running the project; closing the project; reviewing the project ...''
