The Companies Act 2006 (previously the Company Law Reform Bill) is the largest Act ever to come from the British parliament and represents the most far-reaching changes to corporate law in this country since the Acts of 1844 and 1845 passed by the Gladstone government. It received Royal Assent on 8 November 2006 and is likely to be brought into force by delegated legislation during 2007 and 2008. Many basic concepts are changing and it can never be too early to start preparing for the changes.
As well as this, the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Bill is presently before parliament, and there is also the usual deluge of decisions coming down from the courts.
The course is intended to cover all these changes as comprehensively as possible.
