Course Description:

'' The Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma programmes are part-time and modular in structure, and involve a combination of one-week short courses, self-study, and work-based assignments and projects. Learning and assessment methods are tailored to take account of participants¡¯ circumstances and needs.

The Postgraduate Certificate will normally be completed within 18 months of part-time study and the Postgraduate Diploma within 26 months.

The Masters stage is completed by part-time research for a dissertation, usually based on a work-related project. Candidates for the MA must attend three short courses in research methods and successfully complete theirdissertation over a 24 month period.

Modules
The programme comprises 6 taught modules carrying the following credits:

Module 1 Overview of Risk Management in Healthcare (20 credits)
Module 2 Practical Risk Management (20 credits)
Module 3 Clinical Risks (20 credits)
Module 4 Health, Safety & Environment Risk (20 credits)
Module 5 Infrastructure risks and strategy developments (20 credits)
Module 6 Reseach Methodology (20 credits)

Certificate Course
The Certificate course begins in September 2006 and consists of the first three modules.

Diploma Course
The Diploma course also begins in September 2006 and consists of:

Exemptions from a certain module up to a total of 20 credits are possible for Diploma candidates who have appropriate prior qualifications.

The MA Course
The Master’s degree course will initially be available only to those who have successfully completed their Diploma studies and will commence in September 2006. It will consist of:

A short-course module on Research Methodology (unassessed)
A Research Project and report (60 credits)
