'' The North Indian classical dance, Kathak, is characterized by fast rhythmic footwork in complex time cycles. Movements include numerous pirouettes executed at different speeds and ending in statuesque poses. The interpretative portion derives its content from Hindu mythology and is also greatly influenced by Mughal period. Lucknow, Benares and Jaipur are recognized as the three schools where all aspects of this art were nurtured and refined.
