'' The oldest of all Indian musical instruments is supposed to have been played by the goddess of learning Saraswati. It is mainly a solo instrument used primarily in South India. Unlike the Sitar, in the Vina the frets are fixed and it is played with the instrument held horizontally by the artiste. The musicologists feel that the sound of the Vina is closest to that of the human voice.
