'' SPJIMR’s experience of over a decade in developing & strengthening management programmes, combined with the knowledge and understanding gained from the industry, led to the conception of the one-year programme - the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). This programme has been designed exclusively for experienced executives with focussed career objectives and offers specialisations in areas of Operations Management and Information Management. The programme is based on the following fundamental premises:

Self-accountability for learning is at the heart of adult professional education.
Professional education is best acquired if general theoretical propositions are constantly reviewed for relevance vis-à-vis specific and often unique practical realities.

Industry Need

The rapid growth of business has thrown open the need for a very large number of middle level and senior level management professionals in most companies. They are required to have a general management perspective with focused domain expertise on the businesses they serve. The current demand for such professionals is expected to far exceed the availability. Internal promotions within the organization alone will not be sufficient to feed this demand.

Participant Need

In the life of a professional there comes a stage where s/he is ready to make the leap into a role within her/his functional domain but with some general management responsibilities. These individuals already have a significant reservoir of knowledge and experience and need very specific inputs to take them to the next level. In order to do this they need to take a break from their career to which there is a cost attached. What is needed is a program specially designed to give them the required inputs and exposure by using time effectively.

Recognizing this need, SPJIMR decided to introduce a program which can provide companies with the right talent for lateral hires and impart formal, quality education in management to experienced high potential executives with clear career plans.

The PGDM programme aims to create in the participants an attitude that leads to:

Direct ’usable’ knowledge and skills for the select domain/role at the middle management level.
Direct impact of leadership behaviour, and a holistic and integrative vision.
More confident and effective non-logical, judgmental and intuitional decisions.

The unique aspect of the program is the focus on Role / Domain customization in the learning process. In it’s first of kind and path breaking approach management education has been shifted from
(a) contextually neutral to role and domain focus and
(b) functionally unitized to functionally integrated teaching - learning process.
The first batch is near completion. The classes for the second batch commence in April 2006.
