'' Pseudo-conflict looks and feels like real conflict ¨C but, unlike substantive conflict, it¡¯s caused by the way people communicate. This course is designed for those who want to learn techniques that will reduce its impact at work.

COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The course aims to increase awareness of the many sources of pseudo-conflict at work, and to teach many small but subtle adjustments to communication behavior that can rapidly reduce the problems. As well as awareness and knowledge of the adjustments, participants will have techniques for implementing them in the workplace - and encouragement to do so.

COURSE CONTENT
The topics for this course include:

Pseudo-conflict: not just personality differences;
Communication climate: the crucial foundation;
Listening: for content, and for climate;
Questioning: reducing the ¡®interrogation effect¡¯;
Non-verbal elements: highly ambiguous, and easily misunderstood;
Critical feedback: giving it constructively, receiving it constructively (even if it¡¯s not given well);
Channel choice: when would ¡®put it in writing¡¯ reduce pseudo-conflict?;
¡®Goldilocks¡¯ rules for disclosure: finding the balance between assertive and other communication styles; and
Cultural differences in workplace communication ¨C enjoy the kaleidoscope!
METHOD OF DELIVERY
This two-day course (one week separating the two days) uses discovery activities, mini-lectures, and other activities including learning from peers. An advanced course will be offered at a later date (subject to sufficient numbers).
