Course Description:

'' This course is designed for managers and employees in both the public and private sectors who work with colleagues, conduct business with, or deliver services to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALDB). It is also very suitable for CALDB employees wanting to enhance their participation in team work and effective networking in the Australian workplace.

COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
This two-day course aims to increase participants¡¯ awareness and benefits of cultural diversity in the workplace, and facilitate the development of effective strategies for involving staff, business partners, and clients from CALDB in teamwork. For employees from CALDB, this course will also increase their understanding of, and skills in, effective participation in groups and making social contact in the Australian workplace.

COURSE CONTENT
This two-day course will focus on:

Reality of cultural diversity in Australia;
Challenges and benefits of cultural diversity in the workplace;
Dimensions of cultural differences;
Overcoming barriers in intercultural communication;
Effective learning of intercultural social skills;
Alliance building and cultural validation;
Strategies for facilitating social integration in a culturally diverse group;
Social interaction mapping to develop sociocultural competence;
Principles, methods and practice of Mapping;
The ABCD stages of Mapping; and
Strategies for crossing the cultural divide in work settings.
METHOD OF DELIVERY
The course will be conducted as an interactive workshop, with a combination of experiential learning, small group activities, discussions, case studies, and story telling.
