'' Seeking information on the web is a frequent, necessary and ever increasing activity in our daily lives. On one hand, optimal design of information structures is an increasing expectation of our web site audiences, whilst on the other, the demand to provide online information and service increases daily. This course is aimed at small business owners with web sites, online managers, senior managers with strategic responsibilities in providing direction and resources for online environments, people with responsibilities for sections of web content in large organisations, any stakeholder of a business unit web site, or anyone wanting to improve the access to information on their web site.
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES Information Architecture (IA) refers to the process of creating a structure or organisation of information in a way that enables users of the site to easily access the information that they are seeking. The aim of this course is to introduce participants to the concepts of Information Architecture and some of the techniques and tools for achieving best practice. The objective of this course is to provide an introduction to Information Architecture processes and outcomes to enable participants to improve the information design and navigation of their web sites.
Please note that this is an introductory course and not suitable for experienced Information Architects.
COURSE CONTENT This half-day course will focus on the following topics:
Creating categories for information Labeling information to ensure it will be discovered How to represent an information architecture Card-sorting techniques Use of site maps and page layout diagrams METHOD OF DELIVERY The course will be conducted using lecturer presentation, interaction and practical group exercises.
