Course Description:

'' This one day course is designed to allow both private and public sector analysts to understand and apply the techniques and terms used in Leontief input output analysis. The course equips participants to use the technique for economic impact modelling, and is the basis to Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling.

WHO SHOULD ATTENDING THIS COURSE
Policy developers/analysts seeking to add economic impact assessment to submissions on program development and funding.
Economists working in areas where the measurement of economic impact is an important part of policy formulation.
Consultants seeking to gain an edge in bidding for consultancies involving economic impact modelling, or where such modelling might add value to the tender.
Analysts seeking to progress to CGE modelling for whom a grounding in input output analysis is essential.
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The modelling of the economic impact of policies, programs and external stimuli is an essential ingredient in formulating policy and consulting with decision makers. Input output analysis is a tool for modelling such effects, either in its own right or imbedded in a CGE model. This one day course will introduce participants to the concepts used in the construction and use of input output models, and will include practical applications using spreadsheet formulae. Hands-on exercises are used to facilitate participation.

COURSE CONTENT
The transactions table, the inverse matrix, multipliers, the closed inverse, multipliers for employment and GDP, impact measurement, margins and final demand application, table construction, applications and limitations.

METHOD OF DELIVERY
In seminar style, a mixture of theory and case studies will be used to present and illustrate concepts. Numerical problem-solving exercises will be used to give practical applications of techniques using in-class computers and spreadsheet formulae. Full documentation is provided.
