'' This course is intended for anyone with an interest in facilitating effective processes in groups, teams and meetings - including processes for group learning, discussion, problem-solving, decision-making and conflict-resolution.
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The two-day course provides training in facilitation skills, geared to the learning goals and interests of participants.
COURSE CONTENT This course will cover the following topics:
Theories and frameworks for understanding the work of the facilitator; Framing well-formed goals for a session/program; Designing/selecting the best processes for achieving these goals, and deciding on the ways to facilitate them; Warming the group up to the topic, purpose and process of the session/program; Creating a learning environment and facilitating the required learning processes e.g. self-directed learning, experiential learning; Managing the sequence of group processes and the transitions between them, and maintaining group energy and focus; The different types of facilitative intervention and when it is best to use each type of intervention; Understanding the dynamics of a group and diagnosing the sources of blocks and difficulties; Facilitative interventions and strategies for critical incidents; and Developing your own facilitation style. METHOD OF DELIVERY The course uses a combination of short presentations, demonstrations, syndicate activities and exercises, and training activities with coaching and constructive feedback. ...''
