'' Learn how to use a variety of animation techniques including drawn, cut-outs, pixilation and 3D film-making skills. Produce a narrative through a series of different projects.

What is the course about?
The course aims to introduce students to the principles of animation and encourage an experimental approach to 3D and 2D animation using both traditional and computer generated methods of realising work. Animation will be captured and edited on Final Cut. After effects will be used for some of the 2D graphics and text work. Students will be encouraged to incorporate techniques learnt into a project which will develop throughout the course.

This is an introductory course. No previous experience is necessary.

What will the course cover? (contents,themes,projects)
Session1: View and discuss examples of 3D and 2D animation.Intro to camera and capturing stop frame animation on computer.Group exercise in pixillated movement.
Session 2-4 Using clay we create and animate models to produce a surreal world. We animate the models to bring out character and emotion. We explore narrative. The work will be captured on computer.
Session 5-8 Using magazine cut outs and scanned objects we create a surreal environment in which people and objects interact in magical ways.The work will be realised using the transformation tools in AfterEffects.
Session 9-11 Introduction to capturing movie files and editing them in Final Cut. Using basic sound recording and editing students will capture/import and edit their movies. We will also create title and credit sequences for the films and add, where applicable, superimposed graphics.
