'' An introduction to desktop publishing using InDesign, covering management of the work area, setting up documents, working with frames, importing and editing text, and working with colour. Knowledge required: good understanding of word processing.

What is the course about?
The course provides a basic introduction to InDesign on the Apple Mac. You will gain experience with the concepts, terminology and techniques of desktop publishing through practical hands-on exercises. The Apple Macs use OSX.

What level is the course?
Suitable for beginners to InDesign. You should be familiar with the basics of computing, although this does not need to be on Apple Macs. You should be able to work confidently with the keyboard and mouse in either a word processing or image editing program.

Introduction to the Mac computer and its operating system.
Introduction to InDesign for print production.
Introduction to key Desk Top Publishing (DTP) concepts and terms.
How to plan and design a publication.
Setting up a single-page document.
Basic text formatting.
Placing text set in a word processing program, and placing image and graphics.
Introduction to Open Type and some of its features.
Setting up a multi-page document.
Basic introduction to master pages, working with style sheets and working with colour.
Exporting a document for print.
