What is the course about?
- An introduction to methods and materials used for watercolour painting;
- An introduction to the basic elements of painting, e.g. tone, colour, composition;
- An opportunity to refer to the work of some artists who have used watercolours;
- An opportunity to develop a confident approach to painting and further study.

What level is the course?
The course is intended for beginners to watercolour; some drawing experience could be helpful, but is not essential.

What will the course cover? (contents,themes,projects)
The still-life and studio interior provide the stimulus for structured exercises and projects. These are planned to develop skills and knowledge of the potential ways this medium can be used. A museum or gallery visit will be arranged if possible: NB there may be an extra entrance fee for this.

What can I expect to achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- Identify the main characteristics of the watercolour medium;
- Identify the basic materials needed for painting with watercolour;
- Demonstrate an ability to mix colours as observed;
- Identify and use some of the techniques for making a painting; mark-making, colour-mixing, etc;
- Demonstrate some ability to self-assess.
