'' Learn the techniques needed for making a sculptural object in steel: cutting, bending, welding and joining metal. Initial projects will be small scale. Bring along ideas, inspiration and scrap metal. For all abilities. Basic materials included.

What is the course about?
A course dealing with the techniques of welding, cutting and bending steel. You will have the opportunity to make at least one substantial sculptural piece.

What level is the course?
The course is for beginners as well as those with some experience who have an interest in working sculpturally in metal.

What will the course cover? (contents,themes,projects)
- A brief look at the work of artists & designers who use fabricated steel in their work.
- Practical demonstrations of a selection of processes.
- How the processes can be used to create a piece of work appropriate to your interests.
- Health and safety issues and induction into correct use of equipment.
- Preparation of a design, construction of a maquette to be used as a pattern for the final piece.
- Production of the finished piece of work, methods of display.
- Review of the work and processes used through discussion.

By the end of this course you should be able to:
- Experience of the welding process
- Experience of different techniques such as cutting, bending, forming, drilling, bolting, riveting.
- The correct health and safety requirements covering the use of tools for metalwork.
