What is the course about?
This is a beginners’ guide to classical music, which aims to provide students with an understanding of how western classical music works and show its development from the 9th century to the present day.

What will the course cover? (contents,themes,projects)
- Chronological study of classical music, starting with the origins of plainchant and ending with the most recent compositions of today.
- Will focus on specific composers and works from a range of periods.
- Emphasis will be placed on understanding the ’nuts & bolts’ of music (melody, rhythm, harmony, etc.).

- have an understanding of the elements of music (melody, rhythm, harmony)
- have a general historical overview of the development of Western classical music
