'' Increase your understanding of yoga practice (Asanas, Pranayama, meditation), philosophy and theory. Two years Yoga experience is required. What is the course about? General Notes - This course will incorporate the syllabus of the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) Foundation Course (please contact the Health & Movement Studies department to obtain a copy). - The course focuses on basic practical techniques and personal development taught in the context of the philosophy that underpins Yoga.
Course Aims - To provide a basic grounding for those who wish to prepare for teacher training. - To provide a structured course to widen practical experience and to encourage personal development for serious students who do not necessarily wish to prepare for teacher training.
What will the course cover? (contents,themes,projects) - The course covers the principles of asana, breathing techniques, (pranayama), relaxation, concentration and meditation. It also touches on hand gestures (hasta mudras), Yoga cleansing techniques, yantras & mandalas and chanting. It will also cover briefly the history of Yoga, different Yoga paths & traditions and some basic Sanskrit. - Students will be expected to continue attending their regular Yoga class, practice Yoga regularly at home and maintain and submit a Yoga Learning & Practice Diary. - The group meets on Saturday for 20 weeks. There will be 60 contact hours. - It is a requirement to attend regular weekly yoga classes, mixed level or above, at the City Lit or with an approved tutor elsewhere, for the duration of the course. - Individual Tutorials will be arranged with the course tutor.
