Training Course:

Mastering Requirements Using UML and Use Cases

School/Trainer:

Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering
Auburn, Alabama, United States

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is the foremost object-oriented development approach, and represents the unification of the Rumbaugh’s OMT, the Booch method and Jacobson’s Objectory. Object-oriented models effectively capture and communicate business requirements in a way that closely resembles the real world and responds to change.

The course covers the analysis process, showing how to clarify customer requirements and express business rules and requirements by building complementary models of the problem domain from many perspectives. The course demonstrates how to build models that express the necessarily complex business requirements, while remaining accessible to the business clients. This course covers business analysis using UML in the context of the Unified Process.

Objectives

Discuss how modeling using UML is essential to complete requirement definition
Diagram business processes using activity diagrams
Learn a structured approach to process modeling
Learn how Activity Diagrams differ from Process Maps and the advantages of using them
Apply use cases to capture and document high-level and detailed business requirements
Define the major components of use cases models using the UML:
Develop a use case diagram to communicate the system scope
Describe use cases, using a narrative flow of events
Develop primary flows to describe the routine processing
Document alternate and exception flows
Describe generalization, extend and include relationships
Develop test cases from use case descriptions
Use the Class Diagram to capture information and additional process requirements
Using all the models discussed above, develop a quick prototype to uncover hidden requirements

Audience

Business analysts and business experts. Anyone who requires a more detailed view, especially knowledge of design, implementation and testing should attend Object Oriented Analysis and Design using the Unified Modeling Language instead. An appreciation of software engineering practices would be beneficial. Prior exposure to object-oriented concepts is not essential.
