'' The field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is in a period of great growth because of its scientifically proven effectiveness in a wide range of areas, such as instructional methods in general and special education, organizational management, behavioral medicine, parent training, occupational safety, and school and clinical psychology. ABA meets the required "Best Practices" criteria of Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) of 2004, and meets the criteria for being an "evidence-based practice", as required by the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001. The strong scientific support for ABA has resulted in an increased worldwide demand for highly trained behavior analysts, especially in the special education classroom, mental health settings, with the developmentally disabled, and in the education of children with pervasive developmental disorders such as Autism.
As a result of this demand, the Department of School Counseling and School Psychology provides professionals in the education, social services, and health and mental health fields the opportunity to earn a Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis. This is a graduate level program. The ABA Certificate program is approved by Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) to meet the academic requirements for taking the BACB exam for certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst (BCABA).
