'' This certificate program will prepare students for entry-level pharmacy technician positions. Medical and pharmaceutical terminology will be introduced, and basic anatomy related to the pharmacology of medications will be a major component of the coursework along with pharmaceutical calculations. This program will provide students with the necessary information required to pass the National Certification Exam offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. The program meets the standards set by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.
As a part of the Pharmacy Technician certificate program, students will be required to perform clinical rotations through the practicum course. Clinical rotations will include 160 hours of experience in a pharmacy setting, to be completed throughout the course of the program.
Upon completing the Pharmacy Technician Certificate program, the students will demonstrate an understanding of:
Defining the differences between the hospital and retail pharmacy setting
Understanding the laws that govern pharmacy, both federal or state mandated
Interpreting physician orders and prescriptions
Preparing and distributing medications
Defining medical and pharmaceutical terms, and common abbreviations
Understanding the pharmacology of medications in relation to the anatomy they affect
Processing insurance billing and/or collect payments
Controlling inventory
