Course Description:
'' This beginning course provides the fundamental techniques for the design and creation of handcrafted jewelry. Beginning with a series of sterling silver rings, you learn how to size, texture, chase, file, form, solder with an acetylene torch,hand-polish, and high-polish with a buffing machine. Your next project will utilize the technique of bezel-setting a cabochon stone. Through weekly demonstrations, students will learn the principles of sawing, piercing, soldering, filing, riveting, chasing, texturing, drilling, making jump rings, bezel-making/stone-setting, oxidizing, and various ways to polish and finish metal pieces. The third project will incorporate these newly-learned techniques. We will work with sterling silver, copper, brass and semi-precious stones. Prepare to be adorned! A $75 materials/lab fee is payable to the instructor at the first class meeting. Limited to 6 students. ...''
