'' Have you ever wanted to learn Chinese for business or for pleasure? This is the right class and a wonderful place for you to begin. This course will provide an introductory course in contemporary Mandarin Chinese. There will be an emphasis on spoken language with secondary stress given to the written characters. Tonal drills will be introduced, as well as contemporary and traditional rhymes. These along with discussion of culture topics will help students to appreciate the beauty and richness of this language. Required texts: New Practical Chinese Reader I, Liu Xun, A Practical Chinese Grammar, Chinese University Press. ...''
