Course Description:
'' The Diesel Technology Program provides the student with the necessary skills and theory to enter either the medium/heavy duty truck or the construction/mining equipment service and repair fields. The program is flexible to allow the student to enter at the beginning of any semester and to plan a schedule to meet his/her needs. Students receive a satisfactory rating through a combination of competency based task accomplishments and written testing. Co-requisite classes must be taken together.
The Basic Program
The curriculum used for the Diesel Technology Program is approved by the diesel advisory committee, and instruction follows guidelines for the trucking industry as specified by NATEF. Our program is monitored by an advisory board of local industry employers, and is revised based upon industry trends and changes.
Students will be instructed in the use of a variety of manufacturers computer based diagnostic and service information systems to include Caterpillar, Cummins, and Detroit, as well as several on-highway truck manufacturers.
Diesel instructors are industry trained and ASE certified with years of field experience.
Upon successful completion, students may earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree or a Certificate in as little as two years. Major topics covered are: diesel power trains, hydraulic systems, braking systems, chassis systems, electrical/electronic systems, and air conditioning.
