'' The adult nurse practitioner program prepares a student for a role as an advanced practice nurse in primary care of the adolescent and adult client. The focus of the clinical sequence is on the client and his/her response to healthcare needs. Primary care includes the assumption of accessible, accountable, comprehensive, coordinated first-contact care, as well as longitudinal management. The clinical practicum is implemented in a variety of settings, including a nurse practitioner managed primary care center. Advanced assessment and diagnostic reasoning are taught as the basis of nursing management. Emphasis is placed on the development of clinical judgment in health promotion as well as in the nursing management of acute and chronic health problems in the adolescent to older adult client. Graduates are eligible to take the ANCC or AANP certification examination for the Adult Nurse Practitioner.
