Course Description:
'' Physical therapists are licensed health care professionals whose aim is to restore, maintain and promote optimal physical function, wellness and fitness in persons of all ages. Types of treatment administered by physical therapists include fitness conditioning, prevention of joint deformity, pain reduction and wound care. As the majority of the population ages, the demand for physical therapists will increase.
Successful completion of pre-requisite courses combined with practical experiences determines admission into the physical therapy program. The University of Michigan¨CFlint offers the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. By 2006, all applicants will be required to have an earned baccalaureate degree prior to admission.
The full-time DPT curriculum is a three-year professional education program. Students complete the program as a cohort group or class. Each class is comprised of 36 students. The curriculum begins in the fall semester of the year accepted and concludes upon completion of the fall semester of the 3rd year of the curriculum. The University of Michigan-Flint Physical Therapy program is unique in that we offer students a part-time track option. This option enables students to realize their goal of becoming a physical therapist while meeting personal priorities such as family commitments, learning needs or financial constraints. The part-time program means a reduced credit load per semester and does not imply a limited number of days per week on campus. Courses are scheduled according to other class and space limitations in the overall program.
