'' French and Linguistics
The concentration in French and Linguistics helps students become more fluent speakers of French while raising awareness of linguistics, the study of language, in activities such as thinking, learning and socializing. A general understanding of what compromises language in general will lead to a deeper understanding of both a speaker’s native tongue and foreign language. This program is beneficial to students planning to teach, attend graduate school or pursue careers requiring specialized linguistic knowledge and skills.

French and International Studies
The concentration on French and International Studies helps students become more fluent speakers of French while raising awareness of anthropology, international relations and history. Through this program, students will develop a global perspective and learn about the dispersal of the French language and culture throughout the world.

Teacher’s Certificate Program
If you enjoy the French language and working with youth, you may be interested in a career teaching French to students in grades 7--12. As you pursue a teacher’s certificate, you will receive broad training in French and learn the techniques and theories taught in education courses. Employment after graduation is influenced by academic achievement combined with successful completion of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification. This test, designed by the State of Michigan, ensures that certified teachers have the necessary basic skills and content knowledge to perform effectively in Michigan schools. Students interested in teaching outside of Michigan must research the requirements of the state in question.
