'' This course provides an understanding of how injury statistics are maintained by the government. The basis and background of injury criteria used by the government and insurance industry to grade the efficacy of vehicle safety systems is also presented. This includes discussions regarding 5 star for frontal, side impact, and rollover, HIC, Nij, chest acceleration and compression, pelvic loads and accelerations, femur loads, and the TI. Two modules are also provided by guest faculty regarding how accidents are reconstructed and common injuries sustained in the field.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Describe government accident databases.
Understand the basis for and the calculation methodologies for mandated and due care injury criteria.
Understand the mechanics of vehicle accident reconstruction.
Understand the spectrum of injuries suffered in the field.
