Their specific duties may include counting tablets, labeling bottles, and a variety of other duties that vary according to state rules and regulations. Career Responsibilities
As a pharmacy technician you will work directly under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, preparing prescription medications for distribution to patients. You may be responsible for obtaining refill authorizations, transcribing doctors’ orders, and processing insurance claims. Other daily activities may include assisting with quality management and security measures, maintaining patient profiles in a computerized database, and monitoring, ordering, and stocking inventory.†

Our Pharmacy Technician program offers a combination of classroom lectures, lab training, and on-the-job externship experience to help you build confidence in your ability to succeed in your future career. Your training will help you understand basic pharmacy procedures with specific courses in:
Hospital and retail pharmacy procedures and business applications
Pharmacology with emphasis on trade and generic drug names and how drugs affect various systems of the body
Prescription order processing and preparing sterile products including intravenous admixtures and oral solutions
Prepare for Certification
Becoming certified is a great way to show employers that you have the knowledge and skills necessary to work effectively as a pharmacy technician. This program can help you prepare for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) sponsored by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).‡ You must pass the PTCE and be registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy to work as a pharmacy technician in Texas.
