'' The Nursing Assistant Diploma program is a 600-clock hour course that prepares individuals to be nursing assistants in today¡¯s competitive healthcare environment. It presents the concepts and skills to provide basic patient care in a health care facility or a patient¡¯s home. The program emphasizes the skills required to pass the Texas State Certification as a Nurse¡¯s Assistant and secures a spot on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry. This program is a comprehensive course designed to teach students the skills and abilities essential to the provision of basic care to homebound patients and residents in hospitals and long term care facilities. Graduates of this program will be able to communicate and interact effectively with patients, assist patients in attaining and maintaining maximum functional independence, while observing patients¡¯ rights. They will learn how to perform basic first aid, CPR, take vital signs, apply the elements of basic nutrition in meal planning, and follow infection control measures. Additionally, they will be able to apply proper body mechanics in bed making, lifting, and turning patients. Graduates of this program may find entry-level employment as a Nursing Assistant with hospitals, nursing homes, and home health agencies.
