'' The Phlebotomy Technician Diploma program is a 6 month, 26 credit hour curriculum of instruction that prepares students to become phlebotomy technicians in today¡¯s competitive healthcare environment. Each student who completes the course will possess the skills and knowledge necessary to secure employment at physician offices, clinics, and/or laboratory operated outpatient service centers. PSCs are a new focus in the core laboratory concept.

Phlebotomy is an invasive procedure that requires extensive background of vital functions and an ability to provide the most accurate and risk-free technique used in the collection of blood samples. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) exam by which a passing score determines certification as a phlebotomy technician. Graduates of the program will have obtained training in venipuncture, capillary collection, patient care, CPR, as well as basic computer skills. Representing the laboratory and health care centers, certified phlebotomy technicians will be in direct contact with patients, performing tasks that are critical to the patients¡¯ diagnosis and care.
