'' An increase in the number of businesses, changing financial laws and regulations, and increased scrutiny of company finances will spur the job growth of accountants and auditors. Increasingly, accountants also are assuming the role of a personal financial advisor. In response to market demand, these financial specialists will offer more financial management and consulting services as they take on a greater advisory role. In addition to openings resulting from growth, the need to replace accountants and auditors who retire or transfer to other occupations will produce numerous job openings.
The Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration (AASBA) with a concentration in Accounting is designed to equip you with a variety of basic accounting skills that will be useful in an entry-level accounting position. The curriculum provides you with an opportunity to develop the intellectual, interpersonal and communication skills that are needed to succeed in the business world.
What skills can I learn? Students who successfully complete the AASBA with a concentration in Accounting should be able to: Apply the knowledge and skills of accounting, management, business mathematics, and the liberal arts to identify, resolve, and communicate relevant accounting issues. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the importance of the moral standards embodied in the professional code of ethics. Demonstrate the ability to communicate in written and verbal modes of communication. Manage a complete set of accounts for a small to moderate-size organization. Show the ability to formulate and resolve complex problems independently and creatively.
What are some possible career opportunities? This program is designed to prepare you for entry-level career opportunities in both the private and public sectors. In addition to being able to manage a complete set of accounts for a small to moderate-size organization, you could also be employed as a financial analyst, cost analyst or as an office manager in a small company. However, most accountant and auditor positions require at least a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
