'' In the world of health care, the field of radiologic technology continues to be at the forefront in the diagnosis and treatment of injury and disease. The Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology (AASRT) degree can help provide you with the skills and confidence you need to enter the field of general radiography. This education also can form the foundation for further education and cross-training.
What skills can I learn? Students who successfully complete the AASRT degree program should be able to: Demonstrate expertise in producing X-rays for diagnostic purposes. Administer non-radioactive materials for diagnostic procedures. Prepare and position patients for specific procedures. Explain various radiography procedures to patients. Produce reliable radiographic findings on patients of all age groups. Exhibit professional behavior under stressful emergency situations. Conduct diagnostic testing under a variety of health care conditions. Function as a contributing member of the health care team. Demonstrate leadership in clinical radiology practice.
Does the AASRT degree program include an internship? Yes. Colorado Technical University will provide each student with clinical opportunities during the program. In fact, each student is required to rotate through general radiography, trauma radiography and surgery in two to three clinical settings. Students must successfully complete four quarters of clinical education in addition to their classroom work in order to graduate.
What are some possible career opportunities? Graduates may find many different types of career opportunities from which to choose, including jobs in an office setting, diagnostic imaging center or hospital. They may work in the field of general radiography or trauma radiography, or they may elect to further their training through formal education or cross-training into the advanced modalities. Opportunities also exist for educators and program directors in the field of radiography as well as sales, training and research.*
Due to increasing need in the medical field, opportunities are available in all areas of health care, including family care, pediatrics, geriatrics, urgent care, home health care, and long-term care.
