Course Description:

'' This intensive program is designed to qualify you for California State Board of Pharmacy registration as a Pharmacy Technician. California law requires this registration to work as a Pharmacy Technician. Our curriculum includes 220 hours of classroom instruction and 240 hours of experiential learning that provide you with the theory, skills and hands-on practical experience necessary for an entry-level position as a pharmacy technician in a variety of work settings.

PREREQUISITES / ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
You must be a high school graduate or possess a high school equivalency certificate. You must pass the MJC graduation competency test for reading and the program entry exam for math. Testing dates will be provided at the information meetings listed on the front of this brochure. To be registered with the California Board of Pharmacy you must pass a fingerprinting and criminal background check. The State of California may deny you registration if you have a felony conviction. You must attach two current, signed, letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your education, interpersonal communication skills, personal ethics and/or work experience. The letters must include contact information for the reference. You must also include a resume, copy of driver’s license, and a letter of intent, and high school graduation or equivalency documentation.

SCHEDULE
Classes will meet on Mon. and Wed. evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and some Saturdays from 9 to 12 noon. This course is designed to be completed in 12 months. Classes will meet from August 20, 2007-May 16, 2008.

INSTRUCTORS
Instructors are pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in local practice, and other professionals who are experts in their respective fields.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
You must attain a C average or better in quizzes and examinations for all instructional modules and complete all laboratory and experiential work with a grade of S (satisfactory) or better to be eligible for MJC certification. MJC certification meets the California State Board of Pharmacy requirements for registration as a pharmacy technician. These courses are not eligible for credit from Modesto Junior College.
