'' The Early Childhood Studies Certificates prepare individuals to work with young children. The certificates are separated into two phases. Phase I provides individuals with information regarding child growth and development, strategies for effective classroom teaching, developmentally based curriculum, and current research and trends. Phase II is designed to increase knowledge of administration and supervision of early childhood programs.

Courses are open not only to students enrolled in or completing a certificate program but also to individuals desiring to fulfill personal and professional goals.

Phase I is designed for individuals:

with little or no background in early childhood education
seeking to fulfill Title 22 requirements (private Day Care Centers): completion of nine quarter units enables applicants to accept conditional employment, and 18 quarter units meets academic requirements for fully qualified employment.
working toward completion of Title V requirements (Child Development Permits)
who are teachers completing fifth-year credential requirements
who are parents with a personal or professional interest in early childhood education.
Phase II is designed for individuals:

working toward completion of Title 22 academic requirements to become directors (private Day Care Centers)
working toward completion of Title V academic requirements to become teachers and supervisors (Child Development Permits)
who are teachers completing fifth-year credential requirements
who are students interested in furthering their knowledge of early childhood education and administration.
