Course Description:
'' This comprehensive online program prepares qualified health care professionals to perform forensic evaluations of adult and adolescent, male and female sexual assault victims. Topics include medical assessment of injuries, forensic terminology, DNA, forensic wound identification, collection and preservation of forensic specimens, toluidine blue dye staining, Wood’s lamp use, photography, chain of custody procedures, the perpetrator forensic examination, law enforcement investigation processes, advocate crisis intervention, documentation, and preparation for court testimony. This is a 60-hour course.
To complete the SAE training program, the participant must complete a separate 45-hour internship comprised of clinical and non-clinical examinations and observations.
Upon successful completion of the academic and internship portions of the program, participants may begin practicing as a sexual assault examiner (SAE, SAFE, SANC, FNE, SANE).
