Training Course:

Scope Planning, Scheduling and Cost Management

School/Trainer:

University of Connecticut - Stamford
Stamford, Connecticut, United States

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' Time and cost are two of the triple constraints of project management, and they are interrelated. Once the project scope has been defined and elaborated through the planning phase of a project, the project manager’s concerns center around controlling the project schedule, resources and overall costs. It should be noted, however, that no controls can overcome the damage caused to a project by an incomplete project scope or an ever changing project plan.

This course will address the critical project disciplines of scope definition and scope planning, and the knowledge areas of Time and Cost. Schedule compression strategies such as crashing and fast tracking will be discussed and illustrated using class exercises. Sophisticated forecasting tools such as Earned Value will also be presented. The class will work together on relevant case studies and will develop a project schedule and budget. The course employs the Project Management Institute’s (PMI®) terminology and covers processes & knowledge areas that are consistent with “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide®).

Intended Audience:

Functional managers, project managers, project leaders, executive sponsors, key stakeholders and critical project team members can benefit from a discussion of scope, time and cost techniques. Anyone who wishes to learn proven techniques for achieving specific, measurable project results will find this course to be valuable.

Prerequisites:

Participants should have completed the Project Management Overview or a similar introductory course.

Student Responsibilities:

In order for a class to be successful, all students should share the same general level of knowledge and experience. If a participant does not demonstrate these, the CITI instructor will take the necessary steps either to prepare the participant or place him/her in a more appropriate course. This policy is intended to maintain the high level of quality that you have come to expect from CITI.
